UMNO General Assembly 2017 To Inculcate Winning Mentality For GE14 - Tengku Adnan
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The 2017 UMNO General Assembly will focus on strengthening the spirit of UMNO members towards having a winning mentality in facing the 14th general election (GE14), says UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He said it was hoped that the winning mentality among the members would be visible in their debates during the assembly scheduled to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from Dec 5- 9.
"Apart from the debates, I'm also confident that the president's keynote address will also focus on that (winning the GE14). In fact, party vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who is also Motion Committee chairman, had met with motion presenters to give focus on efforts to ensure victory for the party in the GE14.
"Other motions would be on economy, religion and education. This is the last general assembly for the party before the GE14. So, we will definitely do everything that needs to be done to win the general election.
"This is also the opportunity for our leaders and members to get close to each other," he told a special press conference in view of the UMNO General Assembly 2017, here today.
A total of 5,739 delegates will attend the five-day assembly, 2,761 of whom will attend the central UMNO general assembly, Wanita UMNO assembly (994), UMNO Youth assembly (992) and Puteri UMNO assembly (992).
Elaborating, Tengku Adnan said the assembly would begin on Dec 5 with a closed door meeting in which the president will deliver his message to paticipating delegates, followed by the simultanous opening of the assemblies of the three wings by vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is assuming the duties of deputy president, in the evening.
The opening of the party's general assembly will take place on Dec 7.
Approximately 1,800 members of the local and foreign media will be covering the assembly of the party which has 3.64 million registered members.
On security aspect, Tengku Adnan said radio-frequency identification method would be used at this year's assembly to avoid any untoward incidents.
