Digital Schooling Initiative For Future Citizens - Ahmad Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- A new initiative called the Digital Schooling would be introduced to expose future citizens to gain knowledge that is appropriate to their time, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is discharging the duties of UMNO deputy president, said Malaysia needed to move forward and change from a conventional education system to digital education in facing the challenges of the economic and industrial revolution driven by the explosion of digital technology.
He also said the interactive digital software would become the main attraction of modern education and smart learning medium.
"This is the new model that we are offering to generations Y and Z," he said when introducing the initiative at the simultaneous opening of the general assemblies of the three UMNO wings - Wanita, Youth and Puteri - at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) tonight.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said it would be appropriate that an Education Services Commission and the National Education Advisory Council be established to look in detail at the initiative leading to the empowerment and continued implementation of the National Education Policy.
He said among the key areas that required attention would be the development of students' creativity and lateral thinking.
"We have to celebrate their diverse inclinations and natural talents," said Ahmad Zahid, adding that digital economy was a new power in the generation of the world economy through e-commerce.
"We must lead the digital world not merely as audience and followers, but we must also become the players and main drivers," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said the concern of the UMNO president, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also the Prime Minister, in creating the Digital-Free Trading Zone (DFTZ) was a manifestation of the strong commitment of the government in providing business opportunities online.
"This is the new concept of global trading for the future. People from all over the country including the Malay entrepreneurs, need to grab this new business opportunity," he said.
Ahmad Zahid also said the government would give priority to the technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
"This talent industry has to be mainstreamed not only in the number of the graduates it produces, but also measured by the contribution of ideas that can competitively explore international markets," he added.
