UMNO Wings Pledge To Execute Special Mandate For GE14
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The Wanita, Youth and Puteri UMNO wings have pledged to carry out the special mandate entrusted to them by the party's top leadership in efforts to win the upcoming 14th UMNO general election (GE14).
UMNO Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said the movement was given the responsibility of ensuring big support for UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) from Malay male voters aged 40 years and below, estimated to number 1.9 million.
"UMNO Youth is also required to assist in disseminating information and countering slander by the opposition during the GE14 election campaign."
"The party president's briefing for the (UMNO General Assembly 2017) delegates this afternoon had stated the importance of we being fully prepared for the upcoming elections and having a winning mentality."
"Datuk Seri (Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi), meanwhile, gave specific tasks for the party's wings to undertake soonest possible. He said, 'Action, Action, Action!' So, there should be a sense of urgency at every level," Khairy said after the simultaneous opening of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri UMNO assemblies by Ahmad Zahid, as party vice-president carrying out the duties of deputy president.
Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said Ahmad Zahid's message was very meaningful towards uplifting the spirit of the three UMNO wings which also encompassed the hopes of the voters, especially the Malays, in this sacred party.
He said Ahmad Zahid's speech titled ?Encompassment of the Nation's Achievements', contained the essence of the 71-year-old party's spirit of inclusiveness in steering not just the Malays but also Malaysia since its independence 60 years ago.
"Our spirit of inclusiveness has enabled us to care for all Malaysians, and ensure economic inclusiveness, security and upholding of Islam."
"All have been laid out as an early manifestation and of giving hope to the voters if the mandate is given to UMNO in the upcoming general election," he added.
Wanita UMNO head, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the movement would be optimising its traditional approach, namely going to the ground and meeting the voters face to face in the general election campaign.
She said Wanita UMNO would also act as the eyes and ears of the people in highlighting all their doubts and problems to the government.
"We are in the last phase before GE14 and Wanita UMNO has pledged to up our work tempo as GE14 will be the mother of all general elections in this country and we really take our job seriously," she said.
Puteri UMNO head, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said as Ahmad Zahid had preached togetherness in his speech, it should be followed by all party members, who should set aside personal interests and agenda for the party's survival.
"He had called on Puteri to together with the Wanita and Youth wings to shoulder the responsibility of helping the party win in GE14."
"God willing, we will step up our work, especially to garner votes from young women," she added.
