Wanita UMNO Accepts Tasks As Commandant Of GE 14 Machinery
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Wanita UMNO movement is ready to shoulder responsibilities as commandant of the 14th general election (GE14) machinery, said its chief, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
She said the movement, whose strength was being with the people, was ready with preparations for the election since four years ago.
"The president (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) has handed-over the tasks and responsibilities to us as commandant of the GE14 machinery. Anytime the president sounds the signal, we are ready," she told reporters after the opening of the 2017 UMNO General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.
Shahrizat was commenting on the policy speech by the UMNO president which reminded the party's three wings, comprising Wanita, Youth and Puteri, to mobilies their machinery and go to the ground to attack the enemy's fort and win the heart of the people.
Referring to Najib's speech that UMNO's struggle surpassed religion, race and country, Shahrizat said it was a good reminder that the party's struggle was for all Malaysians.
UMNO Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin said he believed the speech by Najib today was not only directed at the UMNO delegates, but also all Malaysians.
He said the speech by the prime minister was a reminder for Malaysians that the stakes involved in the GE14 were most significant as it would determine the direction and future of the country.
As for Puteri UMNO leader Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, she said the movement would continue with efforts to track down young women voters to convince them to vote for BN.
"We will go all out to counter all attacks by the opposition and explain to the people the various achievements made by the government," she said.
