Bukit Katil JR Plus Formed To Reinforce BN Operations

MELAKA, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The Jalinan Rakyat Plus (JR Plus) machinery has been set up in Bukit Katil here to strengthen operations among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in facing the 14th General Election (GE14).

Former Chief Minister of Melaka Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam said JR Plus also aimed to enhance the support and confidence of the Chinese voters in the parliamentary constituency for BN.

He said there were more than 114,000 voters in the constituency, with about 43,000 of them Chinese.

"JR Plus is crucial in ensuring that all BN component parties, including MIC, MCA, and Gerakan conduct more focused and integrated efforts to get close to voters in their own areas, especially the Chinese to ensure BN regains the Bukit Katil parliamentary seat.

"BN had previously lost in this parliamentary constituency due to lack of support from the Chinese community, but we believe the situation will change in GE14, " he told reporters after launching the 2018 Bukit Katil Parliamentary P137 BN JR Leadership Course here today.

Also present was MCA Bukit Katil division head Chua Kheng Hwa.

Commenting further, Mohd Ali said most Chinese voters who previously supported the opposition regretted doing so as there had been no progress and development in the area and the people were neglected.

"Voters in Bukit Katil now know that the opposition do not keep their promises," he said.

He said to date, the BN component party machinery in the area had achieved more than 50 per cent of its objectives through JR Plus and he was confident that BN's position would be further strengthened during GE14.

He said efforts were being made to meet the people and explain issues to them.

The social media was also being used to disseminate information more effectively, he added.

Meanwhile, Chua uirged the Chinese community in Bukit Katil to make the right choice during GE14 to ensure their welfare was cared for and they could enjoy more benefits.

"Give BN a chance to serve the people and provide more facilities," he said.
