Kudat Has Potentials To Become Major Tourist Destination In Sabah





KUDAT, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Kudat district has the potentials to become one of the major tourist destinations in Sabah and in the region.

Sabah Minister With Special Functions Datuk Teo Chee Kang said the district not only boasted of many beautiful beaches including the Simpang Mengayau beach but it was also a part of the Tun Mustapha Marine Park that covered an area of 898,762.76 hectares across Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas districts.

"Kudat will also serve as the transit point for foreign and domestic tourists when the ferry service between Kudat and Palawan (in the Philippines) begins operation," said Teo, who is also the state assemblyman for Tanjung Kapor in his speech at the annual meeting with federal and state government agencies' heads for Kudat district.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the achievement of the tourism industry development in the district through various programmes under the coordination of the Kudat District Office chaired by district officer Sapdin Ibrahim.

Teo hoped for the ongoing commitment and understanding of various agencies and government departments in order to maintain the economic development in Kudat, thus contributing to the people's livelihood in the area.

Earlier, Sapdin disclosed that the number of tourist arrivals in Kudat had increased from 50,000 in 2015 to 128,000 in 2016 and 182,000 in 2017 and the success was the result of cooperation between all government agencies, private companies in organising various tourism-related activities.
