BN Optimistic Of Clean Sweep In Jelebu Parliamentary Constituency In GE14

JELEBU, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) is optimistic of a clean sweep of all seats offered in the Jelebu parliamentary constituency in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), says Jelebu BN chairman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias.

He said currently, only the Chennah seat was under the DAP, while the rest belonged to BN, namely Sungai Lui, Klawang and Pertang, as well as the Jelebu parliamentary seat.

"Jelebu and the four state seats in its history were won by BN before...only in GE13, we gave a chance to DAP to manage the Chennah seat but its party representative failed to look after the interests of the people.

"This is the last term for them (DAP) and we will recapture it and are working harder to realise it," he told Bernama here today.

Commenting further, Jalaluddin who is also Jelebu UMNO division chief said the voters in Jelebu currently were estimated at 47,837 with 38.3 per cent were young voters aged below 40.

He said from that figure, there were about 10,397 registered voters in Pertang seat, Lui (15,161), Klawang (10,199) and Chennah (12,074).

"Yes, we are working harder after GE13 to retain four seats, including the Jelebu parliamentary seat and to regain Chennah from DAP," he added.

On Dec 16 last year, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced that Jelebu MCA division chief, Roger Seet Tee Gee was the party's candidate to contest in the Chennah seat.

In GE13, the Chennah seat saw a straight fight between Siow Foo Wen from BN and Anthony Loke Siew Fook from DAP. Siow lost to Loke by a majority of 1,098 votes.

The Jelebu parliamentary seat is now vacant due to the demise of its MP, Datuk Zainuddin Ismail on Dec 6 last year.

Zainuddin won the Jelebu parliamentary seat with a majority of 7,101 votes, defeating Raj Munnil Sabu from PAS.
