GE14 Candidates Urged To Undergo Health Checks
ALOR GAJAH, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Although no specific directive has been given by the Prime Minister, all Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) should undergo health checks, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
However, he said it was up to the candidate to undergo health checks before contesting in GE14 as being an elected representative was a daunting task.
"Thus, I advise those with health problems to notify the Prime Minister that they are declining the offer to be a party candidate due to health problems," he told reporters.
Dr Subramaniam was commenting on Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron's view to make it compulsory for all state BN candidates to undergo health checks before competing in GE14.
Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam, who is also MIC president, urged the Indian community to understand that issues spread by certain parties in Tamil newspapers were only aimed at smearing the government's image.
"They are only newspaper 'heroes', but in reality, such issues are resolved by responsible leaders (BN leaders) who are constantly there for the people," he said.
