Present Policies Of The Government Bring Benefits To Malaysians

SINGAPORE, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak stressed that the present government policies, whether foreign or domestic, are based on policies that would bring benefits to Malaysians.
Addressing the Malaysian community at a hi-tea session here, Najib said all those policies had so far moved the country forward to become a nation to be reckoned with.
Taking the current bilateral ties with Singapore as an example, he said only by cooperating and collaborating, both countries could stand to gain on the basis of relationship that would bring mutual benefit to both countries.
He said the launch of two very significant and iconic projects -- Marina One and DUO was a good testimony and symbolises the current Malaysia and Singapore relationship.
"You can see for yourself these two projects will be landmark projects that will be remembered for generations because it is a turning point in terms of (our) bilateral ties," he said to more than 350 Malaysians studying and living in Singapore at the session.
"Just imagine, if we have not resolved the problem, just imagine for one moment that our relationship is based on the policy of confrontation between the two countries, just imagine that it is an acrimonious relationship, there will be no Marina One, there will be no DUO, there will be no Rapid Transit System (RTS), there will be no High Speed Rail (HSR), there will be no crooked bridge as well," he said, prompting laughter from the floor.
"Because we believe in constructive relationship, we believe in progressive policies, we believe in making friends, we believe in developing a very productive relationship with all nations and that policy or those policies whether internationally or domestically, our transformation policies, our policies of bringing change, but in a very measured and constructive ways, based on a plan and we have delivered the plan (that) has moved Malaysia forward and today we are a nation to be reckoned with," he added.
Earlier today, Najib had a fruitful discussion with his Singapore counterpart, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, together with both ministers and officials on various issues during the 8th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat at the Istana.
The highlight of the retreat was the signing of the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS link bilateral agreement by both countries as well as the signing of the memorandum of understanding on educational cooperation between the two.
