Over 64,000 Cops To Be Deployed For GE14
JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be deploying more than 64,000 officers and men nationwide to ensure smooth running of the 14th General Election (GE14), which must be called at the latest by Aug 24 this year.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the police force was in a state of full preparedness, including in terms of equipment and training, to face the election.
He said apart from polling centres, police personnel would also be assigned at operations rooms and other locations.
"PDRM will use the maximum capacity of its officers and personnel to ensure there are no unwanted incidents during campaiging and polling.
"Our biggest deployment will be on polling day, but we also do not foresee any problems during nomination day and the campaigning period as PDRM personnel have been given proper training to face anything," he told reporters during a visit to Dalac Marine Engineering & Services Sdn Bhd, here today.
Zulkifli said the PDRM would also assign 5,000 police volunteer reserve (PVR) members who will be stationed at police stations to take over or perform the duties of the police personnel who would be assigned at the polling centres then.
The second dry run on police mobilsation for GE14 would take place early next month , he said, adding this would police in a better position in providing security during GE14.
He added that the Home Ministry was helping out in the procurement of equipment that would be used to carry out tasks during GE14.
