Education Ministry Receives RM700,000 Tithe Donation From PNB





PUTRAJAYA, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry today received a RM700,000 tithe donation from the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) to be distributed to the selected matriculation programme students who are from asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe) group.

The contribution, which will benefit 1,100 students, was handed over by PNB Group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar to Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid in a ceremony at the ministry here.

Mahdzir in his speech said RM300,000 of the tithe money would be distributed to 300 outstanding students who were from asnaf group while the rest would be distributed to 800 students who were from the bottom 40 per cent household income group.

"This contribution will benefit students in continuing their studies, especially those who will pursue university education," he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Wahid said the contribution was part of the agency's responsibility in strengthening the country's education sector.
