GE14: Too Early To Name Who Pas Wants To Be PM - PAS Info Chief
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan today said that although the party would be contesting more than 130 parliamentary seats, it was still too early to name who it wanted to be prime minister.
In a statement on the party's Facebook account, he said that although the party was not short of qualified candidates for the prime minister's post, it did not want to pre-empt the matter because ultimately it was the King who would have the final say based on who His Majesty felt commanded majority support in Parliament.
"Obviously PAS will support a candidate who puts Islam first," he said.
He said PAS was now intensifying efforts to see the rise of Islam in the country and that the party manifesto would be out soon.
Yesterday, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is now leading the opposition bloc Pakatan Harapan, had challenged PAS, which is also an opposition party, to state who it wanted to be prime minister post-GE14, which must be called by August this year.
The bloc has named Dr Mahathir as prime minister-designate and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy.
