Opposition Party Seasonal To Fish For Votes During Elections - Azlan Man

PADANG BESAR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Menteri Besar Perlis Datuk Seri Azlan Man has described the opposition as a seasonal party because it only appeared before a general election (GE) besides being insincere in fighting for the people's causes.

He said the opposition was also unable to fulfill their election promises but instead sought to look for sensational issues to gain sympathy and support that split the people.

"They (opposition) actually don't have any agenda and that's why it continues to poison the minds of the people, especially as the GE is approaching.

"We (Barisan Nasional government) don't neglect the people's rights but implement various programmes to benefit them throughout the year, not seasonal," said Azlan when met after presenting grants to 161 Felda Rimba Mas settlers here today.

Each settler is given 15 acres (six hectares) with two grants for house construction and cultivation at the 2,693-acre (1,090-hectare) scheme being developed for rubber planting since it was established in 1982.

Meanwhile, head of Felda Rimba Mas scheme settlers, Shahidan Mat, 65, expressed his gratitude and thanked the Perlis government for fulfilling their pledges since the scheme was set up almost 36 years ago.

Felda Security and Development Committee chairman Ariffin Abdul Hamid, 58, said the rubber replanting programme was started five years ago and expected to be tapped for latex next year.

"While waiting for the new trees to be tapped, every settler is given a living allowance of RM1,400 a month. We are very grateful and thankful to the government for being concerned of the people," he said.
