GE14 Demands High Level Of Preparedness - Negeri Sembilan CPO

SEREMBAN, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan Police chief DCP Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin today called on all state police personnel involved in the 14th general election (GE14) operations to prepare themselves by studying the standard operating procedures (SOP) and related laws, besides maintaining high level of professionalism in facing any situation and challenges during the election process.

He said in discharging their duties during the operations, they must also be impartial at all time to preserve the integrity of the force.

"The GE14 demands high level of preparedness, including in logistics and communication.

"I hope the democracy process will run smoothly without any incident that could cause disharmony in the state, " he said at the state police´s monthly assembly at its headquarters here today.

Noor Azam said five phases of GE14 simulation training had been held at all districts to ensure that the team is in full state of preparedness.

"I would like to stress that the roles and duties of the police force during the general election will remain the same, that is to ensure peace and security, while at the same time maintaining public order, " he said.

Speaking to reporters later, Noor Azam said the crime rates in Negeri Sembilan had declined by 11.15 per cent or 498 cases to only 3,970 cases last year from 4,468 cases reported in 2016.

He said violent crime rate also dropped by 201 cases or 18.58 per cent from 1,082 cases in 2016 to 881 in 2017.

"The rate of property crime had also been reduced by 297 cases or 8.77 per cent from 3,386 cases in 2016 to 3,089 cases last year. Meantime, the rate of cases resolved had reached 59.74 per cent or 2,372 cases from the total of 3,970 cases reported in 2017, " he said.

Despite the success in reducing the crime rates in the state, Noor Azam said the state police would continue finding more suitable approaches to combat criminal activities with the help and cooperation from other quarters, including the state government and its agencies.

"At the same time, we also have to work closely with non-governmental organisations in a bid to make Negeri Sembilan a crime-free state," he said.
