AZALEA 2018 Vows To Ensure Victory For BN - Mas Ermieyati

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- A network of Friends of Puteri BN, dubbed AZALEA 2018, which comprises young women from Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties as well as from Friends of BN, has vowed to stand in solidarity with the party's frontliners to ensure victory for BN in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

Its chairperson, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is also Puteri UMNO chief, said AZALEA would not want to lag behind in giving their support to the party and would prove itself by its organised operations.

"Many asked why (named it) AZALEA? Azaleas are flowering shrubs that bloom in vibrant shades of pink and purple. It symbolises peace and elegance.

"For us, it also means solidarity, sisterhood and strong family spirit among friends of Puteri BN across the country. So, we hope AZALEA will become the symbol of solidarity and strength of the young women in BN," she said in her speech at the launch of AZALEA 2018 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here today.

Mas Ermieyati said Puteri BN would strive to ensure that the ruling coalition would continue receiving the people's mandate, especially from young voters, in the GE14.

"After this, we will proceed with our series of meetings with the people at the grass roots. We will also fine tune and intensify efforts to locate young and first-time voters through the Jaringan Rakyat (JR) Plus operations.

"At the same time, we will strengthen our election machinery, continue implementing our briefing sessions and GOTV (Get out the Voters) trainings with Friends of Puteri BN," she said.

Speaking to a press conference later, Mas Ermieyati said Puteri BN would not only go to the ground to help the people, but would also become the party's cyber troopers to explain to the young people about government policies and development agenda.

When asked about Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks which allegedly insulted fresh graduates who sell nasi lemak and become Uber drivers, Mas Ermieyati said it was unwise for Dr Mahathir to say that.

"It was unwise and wrong for him to say that. It is because we can see that many people today, including certified accountant, become Uber drivers to earn extra income.

"There is nothing wrong with driving Uber for a side income. The public like it too as they now have options to use a normal taxi or Uber service," she added.
