Kedah Gerakan Adopts Micro Approach To Reach Out To Voters
ALOR SETAR, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Gerakan has adopted a micro approach to reach out to voters as part of its efforts to recapture the Sidam and Derga state assembly seats in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
Kedah Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai said through the approach of 'going down to the ground' - which had been actively adopted by the party since two years ago - the party machinery began to reach out to voters in each district polling centre via the 1:30 concept.
"Through this concept (1:30), each member of our machinery is assigned to cater to 30 voters. This means that they will identify the problems and take care of their welfare so that voters will feel closer to us," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Dr Cheah, who is also Gerakan deputy president, and retained as the party's candidate for the Derga state assembly seat in GE14, was confident of wresting back the seat, backed by the party's outstanding record in serving the people over the years.
"Voters in Derga know me, in fact, many of them are still seeking our assistance to help solve their people-related problems," he said.
Last year, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong announced that Dr Cheah was the party's candidate again to recapture the Derga state assembly seat while for the Sidam state assembly seat, the party fielded its Kedah treasurer, Tan Kok Seong.
In GE13, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate from Gerakan, Bee Sieong Heng lost to Robert Ling Kui Ee from PKR, by a majority of 5,964 votes for the Sidam state assembly seat under the Sungai Petani parliamentary constituency.
The Derga state assembly seat was won by Tan Kok Yew (DAP) who beat Dr Cheah with a majority of 1,156 votes.
