MCA Retains Wee In Tanjung Piai For GE14

PONTIAN, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today announced Tanjung Piai MCA division head, Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng would be defending the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat in the coming general election.

Liow also announced Tanjung Piai MCA division vice-chairman Tan Eng Meng had been chosen as the candidate for the Pekan Nanas state seat.

"We are very confident with the capability of Wee who is hardworking and committed as MP in serving the communities in Tanjung Piai which encompassed the state seats of Pekan Nanas and Kukup," he made the announcement when launching the Tanjung Piai MCA division 14th general election operations room in Pekan Nanas here today.

Wee was earlier the Pekan Nanas assemblyman at the 11th general election before becoming Tanjung Piai MP for two terms since the 12th general election.

In the last general election, Wee defeated Mahdzir Ibrahim of DAP with a 5,457-vote majority.

In the previous general election, Yeo Tung Siong of DAP won the Pekan Nanas state seat after defeating Wong You Fong of BN with a majority of 2,669 votes.

Meanwhile Liow said he believed the opposition party would be using the same tactic of changing its candidate at every general election as proof it was not effective in developing the constituency.

"I am confident DAP or Keadilan will not be contesting here (Tanjung Piai), they will switch constituencies, candidates as it is their tactic to fool the people in the area," he said.
