Kota Raja Voters Urge EC To Add Another State Seat

KLANG, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Voters in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency here want the Election Commission (EC) to add another state seat in the area to balance the demographic factor which is bound to increase in the future.

A spokesman for them, Datuk Amzah Umar, said that due to the current high population density and the expected increase in voters in the area it could be difficult for local residents to receive quality service from their elected assemblyman.

He said ideally, a representative of the people would be able to serve only 40,000 voters and in any area with an excess number of voters, the reps would face difficulties in carrying out their duties in serving the people effectively.

Amzah, a former Sri Muda assemblyman, added that the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency currently has two state seats, namely Sri Muda and Seri Andalas, each of which has more than 50,000 registered voters.

"With the addition of another state seat, it will be able to balance the density of voters in the range of 38,000 to 41,000 for each state assembly. This move will also facilitate elected representatives to serve the people.

"Therefore, we propose that the Kota Alam Shah state seat which was previously under the Klang parliamentary constituency be admitted to the Kota Raja constituency but be renamed Sentosa to avoid confusing the voters," he said in a press conference, here today.
