Najib Meets Kelantan BN, UMNO Leaders

KOTA BHARU, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today held a meeting with Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO leaders.
Also present at the meeting which began at 2.40pm and lasted more than an hour were Kelantan UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and his deputy, Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.
Najib, who is also UMNO president, ended his one-day working visit to Kelantan by attending a gathering with over 1,500 members of the Kelantan Non-governmental Organisations Coalition at a hotel here.
Commenting on the meeting, Ketereh UMNO chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the prime minister stressed that the people of Kelantan should be given a clear explanation on various development projects undertaken by the federal government in the state, especially the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
He said this was because the ECRL project, a brainchild of Najib, would be a game changer for Kelantan towards becoming a more competitive state.
The ECRL project, which connects Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang with Port Klang in Selangor, will be another significant milestone as it will change the landscape of Kelantan from a not-so-strategic and least favourite state to investors to a strategic and progressive one, Annuar said.
He also said the ECRL would not be an ordinary railway project but a strategic development that would see Kelantan on the verge of becoming an international route for transportation..
It will turn Kelantan into a competitive state in terms of foreign investment so that it can be at par with the west coast states, Annuar said.
He said the prime minister's out of the box plan was a new milestone in local politics since the government was willing to set aside political sentiments for the development and well-being of the Kelantan which is under opposition rule.
As such, Annuar reminded the people not to see the project as a political or election gimmick but to accept it with an open mind for a better future.
