To Contest Or Not In GE14 Will Be Known On Nomination Day - Pairin

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- The decision on whether to contest or not in the 14th General Election (GE14) will be known on the nomination day, said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the time would come for all quarters to know whether he would defend the state seat of Tambunan and Parliamentary seat of Keningau or giving way to a new face in these two constituencies.

He said this after representing Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman at the opening of the National Conference on Economic Corridor: Prospects and Challenges here today.

Prior to this, Pairin had expressed 99 per cent of his intention not to contest in the GE14 but would use the remaining one per cent to hear the views of the party leadership.

Elaborating further, he said anyone was free to stand in Tambunan, including candidates from the opposition.

On speculations that his younger brother Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president, wanted to contest in Tambunan if he pulls out, Pairin said it had nothing to do with him.

"That is not my business and whether I'm contesting or not, they on the other side (opposition) are also going to stand," he said.
