Malaysia Heading Towards Growth This Year - Salleh Said

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- The 5.5 per cent economic growth forecast for this year places Malaysia in the superb nations category, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He said the economic growth forecast was far better than that of the United States, 2.5 per cent, UK (1.4), Japan (1.4) Germany (2.4) and Singapore (2.5), to simultaneously dispel the impression often given by the opposition that Malaysia would go bankrupt.

"The World Bank global economic growth forecast for 2018 is 3.1 per cent, namely, 2.2 per cent for advanced economies and 4.5 per cent for emerging markets and developing economies.

"In the East Asia and Pacific region, the economic growth forecast is 6.2 per cent to 6.4 per cent for China and 5.3 per cent for Indonesia. An economic growth of two to three per cent is regarded as normal while five per cent and upwards is superb," he said in his jotting on his official blog tonight.

Salleh said the opposition often played up rhetorics that gave the impression that Malaysia would become bankrupt, including Pakatan Harapan Prime Minister-in-waiting Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said that Malaysia was going to the dogs.

"Actually, all these are opposition lies and what is really taking place is actually the opposite to what they claim," he said.
