More Than 7,000 Policemen In Sarawak Ready For Election Duty
KUCHING , Feb 2 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak police will deploy more than 7,000 officers and personnel during the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
Sarawak Police GE Secretariat chief ASP Wan Shamsuddin Husin said those involved in the operation were the General Operations Force (GOF), Air Operations Unit, Special Branch and several other related units.
"In addition, we have also requested additional personnel from the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) to provide support. During the elections, all the personnel would be deployed to carry out their respective duties.
"Meanwhile 3,904 members would assist the Election Commission (EC) to carry out special duties at polling centres as General Election campaign officers," he told reporters during a press conference on the special training session held in conjunction with GE14 at the Sarawak Contingent Headquarters Media Centre here, today.
Wan Shamsuddin said 23 District Police Headquarters (IPDs) throughout Sarawak had conducted Series 1 of the training simultaneously to prepare for any case of rioting.
"The Series 1 training is more about the scenario during the nomination process, and involved the Light Strike Force Unit , the Public Order Riot Unit and several other related units to deal with riots," he said.
