PKR Wants All Of Its 21 State Seats In S'gor - Dr Xavier
KLANG, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) wants to field candidates in all the 21 state seats in it contested in the last general election (GE13), its vice-president Dr Xavier Jayakumar said today.
He said the party was confident of winning some of the seats it lost to UMNO in GE13.
"We contested 21 seats in the last election and we intend to contest the same 21 seats. We are looking at it from the angle of winnability," he told reporters after attending a talk by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at a Ponggal celebration in Kapar here today.
Dr Xavier said PKR should be given priority to contest the most number of seats in Selangor as the current Menteri Besar and PKR deputy-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was leading the charge in the state.
"There are some parties that say they also want the same seats but PKR is holding firm that we are the government here and the MB is from our party so we expect to lead in Selangor," he said.
In the 13th general election in Selangor, PKR contested 21 seats and won 14.
However the number was gradually reduced to 13 when former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who represented the party and won the Port Klang state seat in the last election, was sacked by PKR in 2014.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir , who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, when met by reporters after the function, said he was not sure whether his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz, who is PPBM deputy president, will be contesting a state seat in Selangor.
"I don't know that. He will be contesting but I don't know where," he said to a question on a claim that the former menteri besar of Kedah will contest in Selangor.
Dr Mahathir is also the leader of the opposition pact Pakatan Harapan which is made up of PPBM, DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara.
The general election (GE14) must be called by August this year.
