Dr M As Interim PM For Two Years A Political Gimmick - Azlan
KUALA PERLIS, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed's intention to become prime minister for only two years is a political gimmick aimed at attracting the public's support in the 14th General Election (GE14), said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azlan Man.
The Perlis Menteri Besar said the idea was something which was not practical, and the opposition coalition (Pakatan Harapan) would face bigger problems if it decided to go ahead with the plan.
"So (he will be) a prime minister for two years, he will not be able to do anything. Then they will need to replace him with someone else, why take such a risk when Barisan Nasional (BN) has a leader who has the capability to lead the country.
"There is no dispute on who is the one, we already know who (will be be prime minister from BN), there is consistency and certainty (in BN)," he told reporters after a people-friendly programme in Kampung Tok Kaya here, today.
He was commenting on Dr Mahathir's statement as reported in a news portal that he would only be prime minister for a maximum of two years if Pakatan Harapan were to win GE14.
