UPKO Ready To Wrest Back Penampang For BN
PENAMPANG, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) is ready to recapture the Penampang parliamentary seat and the two state seats under the constituency for Barisan Nasional (BN).
Its acting president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said Penampang BN had felt the pain of being the opposition in the parliamentary constituency for almost five years, since losing the parliamentary seat and the Moyog and Kepayan state seats in the 13th General Election.
"We (BN) are the 'opposition' in Penampang, but we are the ones who have always been serving the people in this area. How we miss being the elected representatives here.
"We must be confident of winning, and it is our responsibility to win. We should never believe that the Opposition will win (in PenampanG) again in GE14," he said when launching the UPKO Penampang GE14 election machinery here, today.
In GE13, UPKO's Honorary President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok lost to PKR's Darell Leiking in the contest for the Penampang parliamentary seat, while UPKO secretary-general Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin failed to defend the Moyog state seat from Terrence Siambun of PKR, and MCA's Datuk Edward Khoo was defeated by DAP candidate Dr Edwin Bosi for the Kepayan state seat.
