Electoral Roll: 6 Segamat Voters Fail Bid

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Six registered voters in the parliamentary constituency of Segamat failed in their bid to strike out the entry and/or retention of the names of 102 army personnel in the Electoral Roll 2017 for the area.

Counsel R.Sivarasa told media that justice Datuk Wira Kamaludin Md Said in rejecting the group's application for leave for judicial review held that it must resolve the internal issue with the Election Commission first before resorting to the court.

The lawyer said the court did not make any order on cost.

He said the group viewed the issue as crucial and would file an appeal against the decision.

Abu Bakar, 55, Azmi Othman, 43, A. Gangadharam, 63, Johar Ahmad, 61, Khairudin Sagap, 56, and Mohd Rizal Mohd Sohot, 46, were the applicants in the case.

They filed the application on Dec 21, 2017, naming the EC and Johor Registrar of Electors Shafie Taib as defendants.

They had sought a certiorari order on grounds that the EC's action to insert the names of the 102 soldiers in the electoral roll was unconstitutional.
