Fake News Issue: Government Committed To Meet All Interested Parties

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The government will organise a meeting with the various parties interested to discuss the formulation of a new law concerning fake news to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next month.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said the matter must be resolved immediately as it was closely linked to national security and not based on politics alone.
"It is also to prevent any irresponsible party from taking advantage over the issue.
"Thus, the opposition is urged to give their cooperation and not to make wild accusations on the implementation of the act," she said after signing the supplementary agreement between the government and the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO), here today.
The agreement aimed to rename the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) as the Asian International Arbitration Centre (Malaysia) in conjunction with its 40th anniversary today.
The agreement was signed by Azalina together with His Excellency Prof. Kennedy Gastorn, the Secretary-General of AALCO.
The Asian International Arbitration Centre (Malaysia) aimed to strengthen further its regional position and presence globally, changing its name as part of the rebranding into a bigger entity after approving the Arbitration (Amendment) Act 2018 which was gazetted on Jan 10 this year.
Also present at the event was Attorney-General and Chairman of the KLRCA Advisory Board, Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali and former Secretary-General of AALCO Prof. Datuk Dr Rahmat Mohamad.
