Mahathir Can Promise The Moon Because He's In The Opposition - Mahdzir

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said today Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was making an empty promise when he said he needed only two years to settle the problems that he claimed were caused by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Mahdzir, who is the Education Minister, said Dr Mahathir could make such promises because he was in the opposition.

"Tun is in the opposition, just like Lim Kit Siang (DAP) and (Datuk Seri Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) (PKR). He can promise the moon," he can promise to abolish the GST (Goods and Services Tax), abolish tolls and provide free education if Pakatan Harapan wins the election.

"But we in the government cannot make such promises. We can promise what we can do because we are talking about real money. What's the tax collection, how much is the allocation for education, health, defence.

"The opposition politicians can say whatever they want," he said when commenting on the matter after a ground-breaking for a building of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Serada, Banggol Chempedak, here today.

In a live session on his Facebook account yesterday, Dr Mahathir claimed that he could do just that as he had 22 years of experience as the prime minister.
