Today's Comfort, Well-being Are Results Of Having Stable Government - Salleh
SEMPORNA, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The comfort and well-being enjoyed by the people today are the results of having a stable government and the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) will ensure that such comfort and well-being will continue to persist in the future.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said BN was still capable of providing political stability and ensuring economic growth in the country despite facing various challenges, and that was one of BN's major achievements since its establishment.
"To strengthen the foundation, this is not a personal struggle, not an individual cause, but the struggle of the ruling party," he said when opening the 'Fiesta Sehati@RTM Bagus Bah' in conjunction with the Mobile Communication Centre (Mobile CTC) programme at Pulau Bum Bum near here today.
He said when all quarters could stand united and in solidarity, the country would be more peaceful and development could be carried out nationwide, including in Sabah.
Meanwhile, the minister also reminded the public to be wise in differentiating truth and lies or even wild accusation in social media.
Salleh said of late many unverified information were being disseminated by irresponsible parties and were later sensationalised without basis.
"In fact, these information were being used to make allegations and emotional criticisms in a bid to create disharmony among the multi-racial and multi-religious people in the country...besides (purposely) giving a wrong picture of the efforts undertaken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Barisan Nasional, " he said.
He said if the people received dubious information on any current issues, they should refer to authorised sources or mass media such as RTM and Bernama for clarifications and greater understanding.
"Not sure, don´t share. It is because the act of creating and spreading fake news is subject to rules and law of the country. Those who spread fake information will face action, " he said, adding that unverified information could also led to national instability and could affect daily life.
Meanwhile, Salleh praised the effort taken by Sabah RTM in organising the programme in Pulau Bum Bum with the cooperation from Sabah Federal Treasury and other agencies under the National Blue Ocean Strategy initiative.
"The organising of the programme was in line with the effort to popularise government departments and agencies which had gone to the ground to help solve the problems faced by the people in the island and around Semporna, " he said.
The minister said the government, as service provider, had always wanted the people in rural areas, including Semporna, to benefit from its aid and assistance.
"We want the people in rural areas to enjoy the facilities provided by the government, not only in major cities like Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, " he said.
Besides, he said RTM had also succeeded in spreading accurate information in portraying the harmonious society in the country, including the uniqueness and beautiful attractions in Semporna.
He said RTM had a major role to play in connecting cultures by recording and publishing the traditional cultures in Malaysia.
