Shahrizat Dismisses Speculation On Contesting In Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Wanita UMNO chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil dismissed rumours that she will be contesting for the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

Shahrizat, who is also Kepong Wanita UMNO division chief described the talks as preposterous because Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was a highly respected leader who has shown great concern for the people in the Federal Territories.

"I've said it before, stop the speculations on candidates and where they will be contesting. As Wanita UMNO and Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) chief my duty is to ensure that the Wanita machinery is well-established. On the candidates, we leave it to BN Chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to decide."

She said this when met by reporters after officiating the 'Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat' programme at Jinjang Utara football field in Kepong today.

As Wanita chief Shahrizat said all she could do was propose names of female candidates and not where they should be contesting.

Earlier she reportedly did not rule out the possibility of contesting for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat following an 'invitation' made by Sungai Besar UMNO division chief, Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.
