Pekan UMNO Confident Of Winning With 40,000-vote Majority In GE14
PEKAN, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The Pekan UMNO Division is optimistic of securing a 40,000-vote majority for the parliamentary constituency in the 14th General Election (GE14), thus maintaining it as the stronghold of the 72-year-old party.
The division's deputy chief Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun said the confidence was based on the hard work done by the party machinery including all its elected representatives.
According to him, the concern and affection of Prime Minister and UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Pekan UMNO Division chief, for the people of Pekan could not be denied as it was proven with various facilities and infrastructure which he had made available.
"We aim to achieve a majority of 10,000 votes for each state seat, but for the Peramu Jaya seat, we are targeting more than 15,000, so in total, we can get 45,000-vote majority," he said when met at the People's Outreach Sale programme at the Eng Hong supermarket here today.
In the last general election, Najib won the Pekan parliamentary seat for the 10th time by defeating Parti Keadilan Rakyat's ( PKR) Mohd Fariz Musa by a 35,613-vote majority.
Asked on the probability of multi-cornered fights for the Pekan parliamentary seat, Abu Bakar said UMNO had no fear in facing any opposition party in the coming GE14 as it was confident that the people in the area were wise enough to choose the best candidate who would work sincerely for them.
Besides, he said UMNO had also managed to resolve various problems faced by voters in the area.
"All elected representatives and non-governmental organisations under the Pekan UMNO division have implemented various programmes at the grassroots level.
"So far, 80 percent of the people's problems have been resolved," he added.
