Najib Hopes Chinese New Year Joy Brings Luck To BN





KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hopes the joy in celebrating the Chinese New Year this year will bring luck to the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election to be held shortly.

He said the very encouraging situation in the country currently was also seen as bringing happiness to the people who continued to show their confidence in the government.

"I see the situation today, this year is cheerful probably because the people are happy with the economic growth of 5.9 per cent last year, the shares too have gone up, the ringgit is also stronger, the confidence in the country's future is significant.

"So, I feel the Chinese New Year celebration this year is joyous and most cheerful...we pray that hopefully the lunar new year brings a very encouraging result to the government," he said during an interview by TV3 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration organised by the MCA, here today.

Also present at the event were the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Earlier, Najib, Rosmah and Ahmad Zahid were greeted on arrival for the celebration held at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang by the MCA top leadership lineup led by its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, to the accompaniment of a lion dance performance.

Najib, Rosmah and Ahmad Zahid spent almost half-an-hour at the event which was also attended by the top leadership of BN namely Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and myPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas besides several cabinet ministers.
