Terengganu Confident Of Winning Two-thirds Majority In GE14
MARANG, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Terengganu UMNO is confident of winning the 14th general election (GE14) with a two-thirds majority based on several factors including the preparedness of the party machinery in the state.
State UMNO Liaison Committee chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the confidence was also based on a number of detailed studies conducted by university students on voters in the state.
"I am also very proud of the high spirit shown by our machinery so far ... for example, UMNO Wanita are here from morning to evening for the programme .... so I think there's no reason why we cannot repeat the history of greatness which we created prior to this.
"We won 28 seats in the 2004 GE compared to the opposition (four seats) while before that we only won four seats in the GE in 1999.
"We are full of confidence GE14 will be in our favour and we aim to get more than two- thirds of the majority ... currently we won 17 seats, it is not impossible to win all 32 seats in the coming GE,"he said.
The Terengganu Menteri Besar was speaking to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the Terengganu UMNO Wanita Consolidating and Strengthening (2P) programme here today.
A total of 580 UMNO Terengganu Wanita representatives from eight divisions attended the programme aimed at providing insights and understanding on current issues to counter the opposition's accusations.
Commenting further, Ahmad Razif said the 2P programme was the final stage before GE14 and wanted the positive momentum to be maintained for the party's victory.
"The hard work of our machinery is at its best and it is well prepared for a signal of the launch from the President (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) for GE14,"he said.
