GE14: EC To Provide Better Facilities For Disabled
PUTRAJAYA, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) will provide better facilities for the disabled during the 14th general election (GE14) so that they could cast their votes with confidence and transparency.
EC Chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said among the improvements included allowing family members or reliable persons to help them during polling.
He said election staff would also help the disabled to get to the polling centres while wheelchairs would be provided for the elderly or disabled voters.
"Disabled voters will always be given priority at polling centres by the EC,"he said in a statement here today.
He was commenting on the request by the Damai Disabled Person Association of Malaysia (DAMAI) for the EC to provide more disabled-friendly polling facilities.
Mohd Hashim said the EC would look into and take appropriate action on the recommendations made by DAMAI on the additional facilities.
