Translate Party's Strengths Into GE14 Victory - Hishammuddin
BATU PAHAT, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein wants the existing strengths of the party to be translated into victory for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong Member of Parliament, said the party\'s strengths which had been driven by a strong leadership, would be meaningless if UMNO and BN fail to win the election.
"When we (Johor UMNO) place party's struggles, (it means) we always close ranks and that is our advantage. That is why we are still strong.
"This is because we know the fact that BN will not be given the mandate if UMNO itself is not strong enough to become the backbone of BN. Am I right?" he asked in his speech at the meet-the-leader session for the Ayer Itam, Parit Sulong and Simpang Renggam UMNO divisions here today.
Also present were the three divisional chiefs - namely Datuk Samsolbari Jamali, Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan and Datuk Abd Hamid Abd Rahman - respectively, as well as Malaysian Armed Forces veterans.
As such, Hishammuddin, who is also Defence and Special Functions Minister, urged UMNO members to strengthen its election machinery in facing the upcoming GE14.
He said he was now confident of the Johor UMNO's strengths considering that they had endured several tests involving some of UMNO top leaders leaving the party, including his own grandfather the late Datuk Onn Jaafar.
