General Election, Important Platform To Select Credible Leaders And Political Parties




JASIN, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The general election is an important platform to select credible people's representatives and political parties with the potentials to lead a constituency and defend the fate of the people for the next five years.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the people had to give their mandate and trust to political parties that demonstrated outstanding achievements in all aspects over the past five years.

"The general election issue is not something trivial - If we are unable to defend the fate of the people, we should never demand that power from the people.

"Let them (political parties) who have the expertise, to defend the fate of the people in the state namely the Barisan Nasional (BN), to continue to fight for the well-being of the people," he told reporters after launching the BN machinery for P13 Jasin parliamentary constituency at the Bandar Merlimau Utara here, today.

Also present were Jasin Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah, Merlimau assemblyman Datuk Roslan Ahmad and Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Hasan Abdul Rahman.

Idris, who is also Melaka UMNO liaison committee chairman, said all BN machinery at the state level and branches as well as at the polling district centres (PDM) were in the midst of preparing for the upcoming general election.

He said that up to now, nearly 500,000 voters have registered as BN voters, which were more than half of the state's population.
