Labuan UMNO Optimistic BN Wins With Increased Majority
LABUAN, Feb 26 (Bernama) --Labuan UMNO is optimistic of Barisan Nasional (BN) winning with increased majority votes in the 14th general election.
Its chief, Datuk Mohd Rafi Alli Hassan, said this followed the positive feedback of various programmes carried out by the movement after the last general election.
"We organise programmes that suited the needs of the young people, not just for UMNO Youth members, and that help us to serve them effectively," he said to Bernama in an exclusive interview today.
He said the programmes on youth and sports development, religious activities, educational programmes and the monthly free fuel top-up for motorists for 150cc motorcycles and below have bridged the gap between the people, especially between youths and community leaders, particularly UMNO leaders.
"With our people-oriented programmes and positive feedback, we believe more than 80 per cent of youths on the island will support BN," he said.
Rafi, who is also political secretary to the Minister of Federal Territories, said the needs of youths in Labuan had been taken care-off since UMNO entered the island more than three decades ago.
He said they were thankful for the Labuan Motorsport Circuit project that finally took off with the launch of its first phase early this month.
The RM7 million project mooted by Labuan UMNO Youth five years ago will be built on a 12-acre site in Kiansam in two phases and scheduled for completion next year.
He said the project was promised by the government in 2013, and was fulfilled.
"Therefore, the oppositions wanting to set up branch and gaining support from the people here are just empty dreams," Rafi said.
The Labuan Wanita and Puteri UMNO wings have expressed also readiness to help whoever is selected as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
The incumbent Labuan Member of Parliament is Datuk Rozman Isli.
The coming GE14, dubbed the 'mother of all general elections' and expected to be the toughest GE ever, will not be a deterrent factor for the UMNO wings to move forward and make the BN candidate victorious.
Labuan Wanita and Puteri UMNO chiefs, Datuk Aini Safar and Nur Erney Jamil
said the wings had gone through various challenges and had become stronger.
