Police Ready To Ensure Smooth GE14 - Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The police officers and personnel in the country are 99.9 per cent ready to ensure a smooth 14th General Election, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said the police were taking added precautions than in the previous general elections to ensure that all voters felt safe to exercise their democratic right.
He also said that the police were collaborating with the Election Commission to ensure a smooth general election.
"I have gone down to every police headquarters to ensure that all electoral candidates are able to exercise their democratic rights fully during the election.
"In this regard, we have taken added precautions compared to past general elections because we want to ensure that all voters feel safe," he said at a press conference after a meeting with the police senior management at the Kuala Lumpur Police headquarters here.
Ahmad Zahid said the training for the police officers and personnel would culminate tomorrow and they would then be 100 per cent ready for the general election.
He also said that the leave for all police officers and personnel was frozen several weeks ago and this would remain in force until after the general election.
Ahmad Zahid said the police duties had been worked out in accordance with the standards set by Bukit Aman.
These included ensuring a smooth nomination, campaign and polling, he said, adding that the police would also ensure smooth traffic flow.
Also present at the press conference were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Kuala Lumpur chief police officer Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.
