ETP Launch Helps Create More Than Half A Million Job Opportunities For Sabahans - Rahman Dahlan

KOTA KINABALU, March 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 553,000 job opportunities were created for Sabahans since the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) was launched by the government in 2010, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

He said in 2016 alone, 52,000 job opportunities were offered to the people in the state.

"All the plans, especially in bringing investments, are the result of federal and state government efforts with the aim to stimulate job creation and generate income for the people of Sabah."

"This is evident when Sabah's monthly household income increased more than double since 2009," he said at the launch of the TERAJU IMPAK18 programme here today.

The programme is organised by the National Institute of Entrepreneurship, Economic Planning Unit and Sabah Yayasan Group.

Abdul Rahman said based on current records, the country's unemployment rate stood at only 3.4 per cent, following the creation of 360,000 jobs nationwide last year.

He said the government would continue to intensify efforts to offer more job opportunities including increasing the involvement of bumiputeras in business to create new wealth and increase the people's income.

On the IMPAK18 TERAJU, Abdul Rahman said, the programme was a continuation of the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Path and Bumiputera Wellbeing Transformation that incorporated three important components, namely, education, employment and entrepreneurship.

He said the programme provided the opportunities for visitors to get the latest information and advisory services from government agencies involved in strengthening education, creating job opportunities and developing Bumiputera entrepreneurship.

Sabah is the fourth destination of the programme after Selangor, Kedah and Sarawak, he said.

Abdul Rahman also handed over 900 pairs of clothes and school bags to school students around Kota Kinabalu during the event.
