BN Johor Confident MCA Can Regain Seats Won By Opposition In Last GE
JOHOR BAHRU, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident that component party MCA will be able regain some of the seats which were previously wrested by the opposition.
Johor BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Johor BN was not only confident of recapturing the contested areas, but it also viewed MCA's contribution to the coalition as crucial to win the 14th General Election (GE14).
"We are confident that some of the seats previously wrested by the opposition will be recaptured based on surveys conducted (by Johor BN) and this will enhance our commitment to recapture (the seats)," said Mohamed Khaled, who is also Johor Menteri Besar.
"The results of the survey found that the quality of service rendered by representatives from opposition parties was low and that some of the leaders were not even well known by the locals" he said.
He was speaking to reporters after a Chinese New Year open house organised by Pasir Gudang MCA in Johor Jaya, near here, today.
Mohamed Khaled added that MCA would also be taking a new approach in the upcoming polls.
He said that to ensure victory, all component parties including MCA would have to play their respective roles and be well prepared.
"I see that MCA is also well prepared and has identified the best candidates for the upcoming GE14," he said.
Prior to this, MCA had been reported to have identified the candidates to contest in opposition held seats in the last GE, including the Johor Jaya state seat and the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, which were previously won by the DAP.
In the last general election, DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang defeated former Johor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman in the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat with a majority of 14,762 votes.
