MIC's Efforts In Cameron Highlands Prove Its Commitment

KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- MIC continuous efforts in approaching the voters in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency over the last few years proved the party's commitment to remain in the seat in the 14th general election (GE14).

Cameron Highlands' Barisan Nasional (BN) coordinator Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran said the Cameron Highlands Parliamentary seat was a traditional MIC seat since 2004 which was represented by many party leaders.

He said from the first day he was sent to the area, he had worked closely with other BN component parties in mobilising the people's programme to show BN's united strength under one umbrella.

"Any MIC candidate representing BN in the parliamentary constituency for GE14 should ensure the support of the people and voters for BN remain intact to ensure that this seat contributes a victory vote to BN," said Sivarraajh who is also the MIC Youth chief in a statement here, today .

Yesterday, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the MIC was confident the party would stay on in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat in GE14.

Since the 2004 general election, the seat is currently held by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who is an independent member of Parliament after he lost his MIC membership in 2015 during the party's internal crisis.

Meanwhile, Sivarraajh said based on the latest statistics of the Election Commission (EC), until the third quarter of 2017, the number of registered voters nationwide was 14,806,185 people.

He said of the total, about seven million voters are those aged 21 to 39 years old or can be categorised as young voters.

According to him, this data is a message that all youth machinery especially from MIC should work harder to ensure that youth support would once again be in favour of BN.

"Seven million is not a small number, it requires a comprehensive approach and action to enable every voice and their problems to be heard," he added.
