KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan offer to provide water free of charge to the people of Johor is just another promise that the opposition pact will be unable to deliver, said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the opposition was only good at making promises it could not fulfill, as had happened in Selangor.

"The opposition promised free water in Selangor but failed to fulfill that. Now even my house in Taman TAR is without water," he said at a press conference at Parliament House today.

Hishammuddin, who is the Defence Minister, said the people of Johor would not be influenced by the opposition manifesto, but would remain with the Barisan Nasional which could fulfill all promises made.

Pakatan Harapan reportedly offered water free of charge to the people of Johor, similar to its offer in Selangor, if the people of the state returned the opposition pact to power in the state in the next general election.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday that proper water supply and the high cost of houses were two of five weaknesses that the PKR-led Selangor government had failed to address.

He named the other weaknesses as imposing taxes which burdened the people, poor waste management and failure to manage rivers so much so that it led to more cases of infectious diseases.
