No Malaysian Should Be Left Behind - PM
KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has asserted that no one should be left behind from national development, more so when the latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) finding shows that Malaysia is well on its way to become an advanced economy.
He said all Malaysians, irrespective of their religion, race and culture, must feel like they belong to the country and part of something exciting as the country working towards delivering the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) vision and moving ahead to be a better nation.
"Today as I scan through my mobile, I find out that the IMF came out with its latest finding to say that Malaysia is well on its way to become an advanced economy, the economy is on a strong footing but I don't want to think that everything is hunky dory.
"I want to make sure every individual in our society will have someone to help them out...I believe in more equitable development, development must reach out to every individual," he said at CIMB Bank's 'Jom Bersama Najib,' programme here today.
Also present were CIMB Group Chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Tun Razak and CIMB Group Chief Executive Officer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.
The prime minister said that organisations and foundations could do a lot of things to help the government in dealing with the marginalised and help them to stand on their own feet.
So the government is working in collaboration with government-linked companies (GLCs), government -linked investment companies (GLICs), the private sector, to galvanise resources, he said.
At the event organised in conjunction with the Empower Women Year 2018, Najib said there must be maximum female participation at every level in society for a nation to prosper.
CIMB is doing well as a bank, you are making more and more money so I'm happy and you've a good track record in terms of gender balance diversity.
On another note, Najib on behalf of CIMB also announced a new work-from-home policy for one day per week for female staff who are mothers, in conjunction with International Women's Day 2018, delighting approximately 2,000 CIMB employees.
The policy's objective is to make it easier for female staff with children under five to remain on the career grid and future proof its workforce for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
"And I assume you get paid for that one day. And this coupled with CIMB's 1 month paternity leave for first time fathers."
"Next, providing childcare centres and nursing room at work and allowing employees one year maternity leave," he said.
Najib also announced the CIMB Staff Rejuvenation Programme, which allows up to six months of unpaid leave for personal reasons, like caring for children or ailing family members, extended maternity leave or a career break, without jeopardising the staff's position and seniority.
"Congratulations to CIMB. We hope other organisations will follow suit and are glad to celebrate International Women's day. I agree we should celebrate women not just by saying we celebrate women but by really empowering women and ensuring they are in key positions in every facet of our society," he said.
