Zahid foresees winds of change in opposition-held Penang

KEPALA BATAS, March 15 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional is convinced the winds of change are blowing in its favour in opposition-held Penang in the run-up to the 14th General Election, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this was because the weaknesses and issues of the DAP-led state government were beginning to affect the people in the state.
Monitoring showed that several constituencies previously regarded as black areas for the BN were beginning to turn white, he said, naming Tasek Gelugor, Nibong Tebal, Balik Pulau, Bukit Mertajam, Permatang Pauh, Bayan Baru, Batu Kawan and Bagan.
"I am confident a major change is about to take place in Penang," he said at a meet-the-people session at Dewan Millenium here today.
Ahmad Zahid said he was satisfied with the performance of the BN MPs and state assemblymen in Penang and added that they had given excellent service despite the state being administered by the opposition.
He said the federal government had extended excellent service to the people of Penang and that many changes would be brought about under a BN state government.
"We will bring many changes. BN will not promise the sky but our pledges, InsyaAllah (God willing), will be fulfilled. The people come first as the symbol of our commitment," he said.
The Pakatan Harapan government in Penang comprises the DAP (which has 19 seats) and PKR (10). BN has 10 seats and PAS, one.
