Mahfuz Omar joins Amanah

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar announced today that he had joined Parti Amanah Negara, a component party of the opposition Pakatan Harapan pact.
Mahfuz, 60, had quit PAS on Dec 31 last year.
He made the announcement at Parliament House.
Dr Rosli Yakob, former managing director of Harakah, a newspaper published by PAS, announced that he had also joined Amanah.
At a press conference later, Mahfuz said he decided to join Amanah than any of the other Pakatan Harapan component parties because Amanah had made the most sacrifice in the distribution of seats among the parties for the 14th General Election.
Asked whether he would contest in GE14, Mahfuz said his joining the party was not merely to be an electoral candidate but to help all Pakatan Harapan candidates to win.
He took advantage of the press conference to hit out at PAS, saying the party was no longer one with the political power to provide any challenge to other parties.
Meanwhile, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, at the same press conference, said the party would hold a meeting next week to decide on Mahfuz's position in the party and the possibility of him contesting the general election.
