GE14: Liew Chin Tong named Pakatan Harapan's candidate for Ayer Hitam





BATU PAHAT, March 18 (Bernama) -- Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong is Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced the selection of Liew , who is currently Kluang MP as the candidate in his speech at the party's 52nd anniversary celebration here today.

Present were Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.

In the 12th general election, Liew, 41, who is also DAP Political Education director, stood successfully the Bukit Bendera parliamentary seat before contesting the Kluang seat in the last general election.

The Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency has been a Barisan Nasional fortress since 2004. MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is the three-term incumbent MP for Ayer Hitam.

In the 13th general election, Wee defended the seat against PAS candidate Hu Pang Chow with a majority of 7,310 votes.
