Perak BN may increase number of women candidates in GE14
IPOH, March 18 (Bernama) --Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) does not discount the possibility of increasing the number of women candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir , who is also Perak Menteri Besar, said this was because Perak is known as one of the states that always gave women the chance to fill key positions whether in the party or state.
"Actually, we are working at increasing the number of women candidates not just in UMNO but also in all the other BN component parties.
"We cannot deny the role of women and there were many who were appointed as state executive councillors and into other key positions in the state government," he said in a press conference after the launch of the Perak Wanita and Puteri election machinery at the Menteri Besar's residence here today.
Also present at the event were Wanita UMNO head Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and more than 2,000 Wanita and Puteri state members.
