Bagan Datuk District Council begins operation - Zahid

BAGAN DATUK, March 18 (Bernama) --The Bagan Datuk District Council has officially taken over the role of the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) in terms of administrative matters for the Bagan Datuk district.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision for the formation of the council was approved at the meeting of the Perak State Executive Council two weeks ago (March 7).

He said the approval facilitated the people in the 12th district in the state to carry out all administrative matters which was now centred at Simpang Tiga, Rungkup.

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), it is not only the Bagan Datuk district, two weeks ago the State Executive Council (Exco) approved the formation of the Bagan Datuk District Council which takes over the functions of MPTI.

"It means that after this we will have our own district council and will manage our own affairs without depending on others," he said.

He said this at the charity dinner in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Sumun, here tonight.

Previously, Bagan Datuk was under the Hilir Perak District together with Teluk Intan which were under the administration of MPTI.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of SK Sungai Sumun, Ahmad Zahid announced an allocation of RM1 million for the school.
