BN government capable of resolving problems on Orang Asli customary land in Kelantan

GUA MUSANG, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) government will be able to resolve the process of gazetting the Orang Asli customary land in Kelantan if the coalition is returned to power in the state in the 14th general election (GE14).

Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said the problem would not be resolved for as long as PAS remained in power in Kelantan.

"The Orang Asli community is worried with what is happening now and the state government remains adamant in not wanting to gazette the customary land they claimed as theirs," he told reporters after opening the annual general meeting of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kuala Lah Parents-Teachers Association here today.

Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang UMNO division leader, said the state government should consider the request by the Orang Asli as land matters came under its jurisdiction.

"If given the mandate in Kelantan after GE14, we (BN) will consider giving individual land titles to the Orang Asli," he said.
