Return to basics, Najib tells BN components
KUANTAN, March 24 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak called on all members of the coalition's component parties to return to the basic struggle of BN, which practises power sharing and consensus in all aspects for the good of all races.
The Prime Minister said all members of BN component parties need to understand the principles of moving along together to ensure a huge victory for the coalition in the 14th General Election (GE14).
"If we still do not know how to move in a line together, then we have not become team players yet. If we want to succeed, we must be 'party men' who are obedient to God and His messengers and leaders.
"As such, we have to go back to the principles of why BN represents all races, all the way back to 1974... namely to look after welfare of all races; (to ensure) the well-being of the people; to live in peace, harmony, prosperity; as well as to make Malaysia the greatest country in the world," he said.
Najib said this in his speech at a Meet-the-People session and launching of BN's Kuantan parliamentary constituency GE14 election machinery here today.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, who is also State BN chairman; Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is also MCA president; Kuantan BN chairman Wan Wan Adnan Wan Mamat; and his deputy, Datuk Seri Hamid Mohd Nazahar.
More than 8,000 leaders and members of BN and members of the public thronged Dataran Kemunting since noon to welcome Najib with cheers and cries of Hidup BN (long live BN) and Negaraku Malaysia (my country, my Malaysia).
Meanwhile, Najib asked all members of the coalition's component parties to leave the matter of selection of BN candidates for GE14, to him as it would be determined with the help from the BN leadership of the states including the menteri besar and divisional chiefs.
Sometimes the decision is in our favour, at times they are not Do look at it as a sacrifice in the long run.
Most importantly, we can establish a strong, stable and respected government by the world... Therefore, leave it (decision) to me as I will try to think what is best for BN, he said.
In the meantime, Najib also asked voters in Kuantan to no longer be deceived by the opposition's propaganda ahead of GE14, just like what happened in the GE13 over the Lynas plant issue.
Now that the (rare earths) project has been running for a term (since the last) election, we want to ask the opposition why are they not bringing up the matter over Lynas anymore? Perhaps, it is because the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report has recognised it as safe.
As such, it is clear that what has been said before is a lie... Now, there is a new lie that we are selling the country's sovereignty in carrying out the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) project.
...We are tired of their lies. We want investment because when there is investment we have jobs that will drive economic activities, which will benefit many parties. So, do not be fooled by the opposition's tricks, he said.
